Hopkins Middle School is being built around the years that matter most. We are creating a small, focused school where every student is known by name, challenged at the right level, and supported through the transition into high school.
Three years, planned as one arc. Each grade builds directly on the last so students arrive in high school prepared and confident.
The transition year. Students build strong study habits, learn to manage multiple classes, and settle into a community where they are known. Core work in English, math, science, and social studies is paired with explicit instruction in organization and independent learning.
The building year. Coursework moves toward deeper reading, formal writing, pre-algebra and algebra pathways, and hands-on lab science. Students take on longer projects and start choosing electives that follow their own interests.
The launch year. Students take on high-school-level coursework where they are ready for it, lead schoolwide projects and service work, and finish with a capstone that they present to the community before moving on.
Hopkins Middle School is a new school currently in its founding stage. We are focused on grades 6 through 8 because these three years shape how students see themselves as learners — and they deserve a school built specifically for them, not an afterthought attached to a larger campus.
Our plan is a small school with small classes, so teachers have the time to actually know their students. Every student will have an advisor who follows them across all three years and stays in regular contact with families.
We are assembling a founding team of experienced middle school educators and working through the approvals, facilities, and partnerships required to open our doors. As each milestone is confirmed, we will post it here.

The commitments guiding how we are designing the school.
Small classes and a small school, so no student moves through the day unnoticed. Teachers will have the capacity to adjust their work to the students actually in front of them.
Each student is paired with an advisor who stays with them for all three years, tracks their progress across every class, and keeps an open line with their family.
Projects with a genuine audience and an actual outcome. Students write, build, test, and present work that goes beyond the worksheet.
Reading, writing, and mathematics come first. Enrichment is real and generous, but it never substitutes for the core skills that determine what comes next.
Middle school is hard. Structured support for well-being, belonging, and healthy routines is part of the schedule, not something bolted on afterward.
Clear, regular, plain-language communication about how a student is doing — before small problems have time to become large ones.
